WCL House Concerts: Marielle Kraft, The Bul Bey, Bob Beach

January 25, 2021

While we’re still unable to welcome you into our house, we’re excited to present a series of virtual WCL House Concerts with a nod to the centuries-old tradition! We’ve invited some of your favorite Philly-area artists, many of whom have played our stages countless times over the years, to share their music. These intimate livestream concerts will premiere on our YouTube channel, directly from the artists’ homes to yours.

We asked some of this week’s performers a few questions about their 2020 experiences and 2021 plans. Read on!

MARIELLE KRAFT

What was your last show (as a performer or audience member) before the shutdown?

The last show I played pre-shutdown was on Friday, March 13th at the Evening Music in Charlotte, NC. It was only the second night of my three week spring tour, and ended up being more special than we could have ever known.

What are your plans for 2021 and beyond?

I just relocated from Delaware to Nashville at the end of 2020, so 2021 will be a year of building my network here, honing in on my voice and style, and writing the best songs of my career thus far. I’m already working on some new songs in the studio to be released this year and then, once venues reopen, I’ll finally be hitting the road again across the eastern half of the U.S. – including a headlining show at World Cafe Live on October 15th!

What has been your favorite way to pass the time while at home?

I’ve really gotten into film photography within the last year, learning how to frame and shoot different photos on thrifted cameras from the 70s. I also binge watched the entirety of The Good Place, fostered a pup, and completed exactly 1 puzzle.

What’s your favorite WCL memory?

In July of 2019, I headlined my first show at WCL with my full band for my debut EP release show. The room was packed with everyone who had believed in me since my days performing on the University of Delaware campus, and I cried as I walked back to the green room from the magnitude of love felt in the room. I knew it was a feeling that I want to chase for the rest of my career.

THE BUL BEY

What was your last show (as a performer or audience member) before the shutdown?

My last performance was Jan 29th 2020 at Bourbon and Branch.

What are your plans for 2021 and beyond?

My goal is to empty my hard drive of unreleased music (which there’s a lot of) and strengthen my connection with my community.

What has been your favorite way to pass the time while at home?

Writing songs, exercising, and youtube rabbit holes.

What’s your favorite WCL memory?

There legit so many! But I’ll say the time I saw Aloe Blacc downstairs. When he performed “You make me smile” he asked the audience to join in, and for the band to drop out. The entire room sang the song. It was beautiful.

BOB BEACH

What was your last show (as a performer or audience member) before the shutdown?

Our last show was March 10 at the Banderas Bay Music Festival at Los Arroyos Verdes Bucerias, Mexico. I flew back on Friday March 13th and all hell broke loose on the 14th. I was a bit surprised but thankful.

What are your plans for 2021 and beyond?

Currently working with our agent to get back to live shows asap.

What has been your favorite way to pass the time while at home?

Listening to music I haven’t heard before and trying to create some solo videos.

What’s your favorite WCL memory?

There are many but May 17, 2012 stands out to me. I was able to hang out with Dr. John for 15 minutes while he waited to do a live interview with David Dye. This was a NON-COMM event.
