Creating Community
World Cafe Live is a place where everyone is welcome.
From open mic nights to sold out shows, from Bridge Sessions to beer fests, from workshops to weddings, we’ve connected with millions of guests since opening in 2004. We recognize the value of shared experiences, the importance of belonging.
As an independent venue, World Cafe Live is devoted to the city of Philadelphia and its deep cultural roots. Through a mix of free and low-cost events, we’re able to open our doors and provide a gathering space for the community. Our intimate stages also serve as a launchpad for emerging talent–where local artists play their first gig, where national acts build their career, where international musicians make their U.S. debut. We take pride in nurturing our city’s rich music scene.
Our education programs were founded to boost music opportunities for public schools, and working with youth remains at the heart of our mission. Each year, we engage thousands of students in grades 2-12 from Philadelphia public schools. We have built relationships with a broad network of public schools from across the city who bring students to our Bridge Sessions. We also work with 3-4 schools each year to develop in-depth music-making programs that complement classroom learning.
We prioritize accessibility and inclusion for people with disabilities. World Cafe Live is fully ADA accessible, and we’re always working to improve our facilities so that everyone can enjoy the same great experience.
We partner with Art-Reach, the region’s leading arts accessibility organization, as well as human service organizations and schools, to provide Bridge Sessions and workshops for youth and adults with physical and cognitive disabilities. Our programs easily adapt to accommodate different abilities and needs, and allow multiple entry points for participation.
World Cafe Live is committed to providing accessible music for all. With over 15 years of innovation and collaboration, we are able to create a space that is uniquely suited to our community.
