Jazz Appreciation Month is here, and we’re showing our love for all things jazz with a slate of local shows you won’t want to miss! These events feature artists from all over Philly, each pulling from different jazz traditions & ensemble lineups to keep each show fresh and exciting.
We’re kicking things off with a showcase of local composers & arrangers on April 5. Vocalist Lora Sherrod opens up the show with her band before Jasyn Brazoban & Sean McCusker’s trombone ensemble Inslide Job takes over to show off their unique arrangements. Closing the night is headliner Steven Perry’s “Dual Identity” ensemble with Perry on marimba and keys.
April 12 brings you a FREE show in The Lounge featuring local ensemble Soul Frequency led by vocalist Chris Murray. They’ll show off their big band sound with horns and a rhythm section. Singer-songwriter Todd Morton is opening up the show!
Our FREE monthly Jazz Jam ft. Emmanuel Ohemeng III & Perpetual Motion returns to The Lounge on April 13. These nights have been packed with talent – our house band kicks off the night with a few tunes before the stage opens up for other musicians to join in the jam. Come early for dinner and drinks at 6pm before the music starts at 8pm!
We’ve got An Evening with Hailey Brinnel on April 20 in The Lounge, featuring the jazz vocalist celebrating the release of her album Beautiful Tomorrow. She’s worked with the likes of The Philly Pops, Sherrie Maricle and the DIVA Jazz Orchestra, Ingrid Jensen, and has even been featured on Spotify’s ‘Best Vocal Jazz of 2022’ editorial playlist!
Also on April 20, WXPN Welcomes Sun Ra Arkestra in the Music Hall! This show has SOLD OUT, but if you didn’t snag tickets, you’re in luck – intergalactic maestro Marshall Allen is celebrating his 99th birthday on May 27 in The Lounge and tickets just went on sale.
