First Person Arts StorySlam: Second Chances

Tuesday, March 11, 2025
Doors: 6pm | Show: 7:30pm

Second Chances:
Letʼs be real: weʼve all had those moments where life handed us an ot-so-great plot twist, only to come back with a sequel thatʼs way better.
Whether it was a career misstep that turned into your dream job, a disastrous relationship that led you to true love (or at least a decent Netflix
partner), or that time you tried something new, failed spectacularly, and ended up finding your real passion – youʼve got a “second-chance” story
that needs to be told. We want to hear how you picked yourself up, dusted yourself off, and came back stronger, wiser, and maybe a little bit
funnier. So, whether your second chance came with a side of extra confidence or a sprinkle of chaos, itʼs time to share. Letʼs celebrate the magic of
second chances—and prove that failure is just the universeʼs way of giving you a better plot.

Join First Person Artsʼ and our host for the evening comedian Lamarr Todd for Phillyʼs original (and best!) storytelling competition. Our scorekeeper,
local celebrity guest judges, and an audience judge will score the stories and give our storytellers helpful hints on how to improve their tales.
The winner takes home $100 and bragging rights until next year.

Come to World Café Live on 3/11 for a fun-filled night with stories told by you–our audience–live on stage. The show starts at 7:30pm.
Tickets are only $15!

Got a great story and want a guaranteed spot on stage?
Pitch us your story at stories@firstpersonarts.org. Please limit your pitch to no more than 100 words. We choose 4 lucky featured storytellers about
two weeks before the show. Each storyteller gets a complimentary 30-minute story coaching session with our expert storytelling coaches. The
remaining 3 slots are up to fate on the night of the StorySlam.

Never been to a First Person Arts StorySlam storytelling competition before?
No problem. First Person Arts StorySlams are like open mic nights for people who love stories. We provide a theme, and you provide a 100% true,
personal story. Youʼve got 5 minutes on stage to entertain the “most engaged audience in Philly.” No notes or props allowed.

First Person Arts includes storytellers practicing across multiple disciplines such as theatre, memoir, visual, arts, spoken word, and dance. In documentary art, the message is more important than the messenger. We promise, with each story you tell and/or hear, the more connected you will feel. The act of making oneself vulnerable through storytelling breaks down barriers. Our unique and shared experiences will bring our communities closer together. You are not alone.
