Dublin-based indie-rock band The Coronas released their eighth studio album, Thoughts & Observations, on September 27th. Produced by Grammy award-winning, long-time collaborator, George Murphy (Mumford and Sons, The Specials, Ellie Goulding), written in Dingle, County Kerry and recorded in Eastcote Studios in London, Thoughts & Observations is a powerful, melodic record which takes an incisive look at life, relationships and art. Four singles have already been taken from the album, ʻGhostingʼ, ʻThatʼs Exactly What Love Isʼ, ʻConfirmationʼ, and ʻSpeak Upʼ, which was the first single and is also the album opener. Lead vocalist/guitarist Danny OʼReilly says, “One of the first songs that we wrote for the record, it felt immediately like an album opener. The song is an uplifting cry for help and guidance.” In a constantly changing music industry, the Coronasʼ longevity is rare and to be celebrated. Their last three albums have gone straight to number 1 in the Irish charts, while their live following has grown exponentially overseas, with recent sold-out tours in the US, Canada and Australia a testament to their success. Renowned for being one of the best live acts in the country, the band have been headlining big shows and festivals in Ireland for almost 15 years, and their regular Christmas shows in The Olympia are the stuff of legend. Recent highlights include being voted Hot Press #1 Live Act of the Year 2023, performing for President Biden in Co. Mayo and supporting Bruce Springsteen at BST Hyde Park in London. Taken at face value, ʻThoughts and Observationsʼ are words that suggest reflections on experiences and sometimes deeply personal issues. As the provocative title of the forthcoming new studio album from The Coronas, however, the words Thoughts & Observations signal the impending arrival of perhaps the Irish bandʼs most dynamic, yet introspective, music to date. Fuelled by heavy doses of both candour and emotion, the 12 original songs written by the three band members-- Danny, bass guitarist Graham Knox and drummer Conor Egan—along with a host of songwriting collaborators, are at times anthemic, at times delicate, at times cynical, but always authentic.
