V. Shayne Frederick is a vocalist, pianist, recording artist, composer and educator with performances spanning two decades. He has been featured at TEDx, NPR, a multitude of music fests, museums, and jazz clubs throughout the country, in addition to curating weekly musical series at South Jazz Kitchen and JG Skyhigh, Four Seasons Comcast within the last few years. An ASCAP member, V. Shayne also scores for film and commercial. One animated short film he scored, “Testimony,” has garnered critical acclaim and screenings internationally, winning an award at the Black Star film Festival. His musical production work has appeared in Visit Philadelphia commercials and other film media. V. Shayne grew up on a church piano bench next to his vocalist-pianist mother in rural North Carolina; his father performed contemporary Jazz saxophone in Philadelphia. V. Shayneʼs first performances, however, were in the Dartmouth College Gospel Choir, for which he quickly rose to be the director by the time he was a sophomore. Years later, V. Shayne has been cited by the Broad Street Review as “one of the regionʼs busiest and best jazz singers,” appointed “one to watch” and a “shining light” by All About Jazz, and called “soulful” in Downbeat Magazine. According to WRTI, “Frederick […] could sing about breakfast cereal and make me believe in a higher power,” and according to WXPN, “his stunning baritone effortlessly soars; sometimes a seductive whisper, sometimes an exuberant belt.” Following his debut CD, Lovesome, and three subsequent EPs, Gleaming, Evergreen, and Blacklight, he released a new album, King, 2022. These self-produced projects include his own musical arrangements alongside collaborative arrangements with instrumentalists, and were all recorded in Philadelphia recording studios, but have received international radio play.
Christopher Murray is a soulful jazz and blues singer based out of Philadelphia. While influenced by artists such Al Jarreau, Nat King Cole, Rachelle Farrell, and Whitney Houston, his voice always aims to be one-of-a-kind through countless years of experience singing for church and all around Philly. In addition, he is backed by a collective band of musicians, Soul Frequency, incorporating a mix of jazz/R&B/latin and even rap/hip-hop in some performances. The band will usually range anywhere from 4-piece to 10-piece–sometimes even more–because of the wide variety of musicians of different backgrounds who each have something unique to bring to the table for each song. It's because of Murrayʼs powerful singing and the versatility of the individuals that they are able to deliver fresh, smooth, theatrical, groovy, and original takes on popular hits such as Summertime, Nature Boy, My Way, and many more. Murray & Soul Frequency always strive to perform at festivals and venues wherever they know the frequencies of souls resonate with the music the most. Even if itʼs a different crowd every performance, Murray is no stranger to always welcoming a crowd in ways they can be heartfelt by whatever happens on stage. The debut album, “Introducing Chris Murray CLASSICS featuring Gabe Preston,” will be released in January 2025, with at least two singles releasing late 2024 (“I Just Dropped By to Say Hello” on October 15th, and “My Way” in December).
“The project probably fits easiest under the jazz fusion umbrella, but even there, Preston pushes boundaries — incorporating atmospheric keyboard tones, feeding their instruments through a chain of effects pedals for a psychedelic effect, bringing in local MC Josh ʻEyesoʼ Donovan to bar down on a few tracks.” - John Vettese, WXPN 88.5 GPS is a fusion jazz group based in Philadelphia, renowned for their experimental and spacey soundscapes. Founded by Gabe Preston under "Gabe Preston Sounds," the band currently uses a more universal acronym of "Galactic Prism Sounds." With hardhitting improvisations on saxophone/flute, drums, bass, and keyboard, they create a vibrant musical experience that transcends traditional boundaries. Their performances are a cosmic journey through rhythm and melody, seamlessly blending genres and captivating audiences with their dynamic and innovative approach to jazz. GPS is always prepared to elevate anyone's senses wherever they go. After two quarantine-project singles, GPS released their first album, "[to the stratosphere]," in late 2022, and they are now releasing a new album, "Galactic Prism Sounds," in early 2025, with the current iteration of the band: Gabe Preston - saxophones/flute Anthony Passante-Contaldi aka "Tony PC" - keyboard Victor Nica- guitar Declan Fischer - bass Jack Thomas - drums
SoundEVR is a band centered around making music that gets people to dance, drawing from Funk, RnB, Pop, Jazz and especially House Music. The band originally formed in 2016 in Oberlin, Ohio under the leadership of Daniel Spearman. After a number of dormant years, and a move to Philadelphia, PA, the band reformed in 2023. When you come to a SoundEVR show, expect a musical experience expertly curated to get the adrenaline pumping and the body moving. Our goal isn’t just to play the hits, but to weave together musical moments that keep the energy high, much like a DJ that is in sync with their audience. We believe there is no greater feeling than seeing people vibing to our music, so if you aren’t dancing, we aren’t doing our job. SoundEVR brings together some of Philadelphia’s most talented musicians. Collectively, they have performed throughout the city of Philadelphia, hitting the stages of The Brooklyn Bowl, City Winery, Time, Chris’s Jazz Cafe and the Black Squirrel Club among many others.
